VBOX IISX

HomeVBOX IISX

Available with an update rate of 20 times a second, the VBOX IISX features a built in display, SD card logging, high speed brake trigger input, CAN interface and two sets of analogue and digital outputs.

Due to its small size and simple installation, VBOX IISX is ideally suited for use in cars, bikes, off road vehicles and boats.

If you don’t want to use a Base Station, then the VBOX IISX range of GPS data loggers gives the highest ‘stand alone’ positional accuracy of our range, utilising the free WAAS/EGNOS correction service to give <1m positional accuracy.

Positional accuracies of 40cm (standard) or 20cm (optional) are also available when used in conjunction with a Racelogic DGPS Base Station.

The VBOX IISX has a host of features which makes it a very powerful and flexible vehicle testing data logger.

  • Available with 20 Hz update rate
  • CAN interface for logging of vehicle data
  • CAN Bus interface: connect to all VBOX input modules
  • Logs up to 24 data channels in addition to up to 13 standard GPS channels
  • +/- 10cm brake distance accuracy
  • USB and RS232 serial interface
  • SD card logging
  • 2 x Analogue outputs + 2 x Digital outputs
  • Accurate brake/event trigger input
  • OLED screen display
  • Front panel configuration buttons
  • Wide range of power input: 6 – 30V
  • Brake testing
Having a maximum update rate of 20Hz is still plenty fast enough for brake testing, you don’t quite get the phenomenal ±1.8cm resolution of the VBOX 3i, but for many purposes the ±10cm achieved is more than adequate. The VBOX IISX has a high speed brake trigger input, which scans for a braking event 100,000 times a second.
  • Performance testing
This unit is perfect for all variations of performance testing, the accuracy and quick response of the 20Hz unit gives very repeatable and accurate results, when tested back to back with the VBOX 3i, they are within a few hundredths of a second every time.
  • Durability testing
The lower sample rates of 20Hz make this unit suitable for long term testing where high speed logging is not required.
  • Driving line analysis
The great positional accuracy and 20Hz update rate are perfect for professional level driving line analysis at an affordable cost.

The VBOX Tools software analysis package allows you to carry out sophisticated tests in real-time and in post processing.

All parameters can be viewed in a customisable graph, and the data can be scanned, analysed and manipulated using the very powerful Report Generator function.

There are a number of standard test configurations which can be loaded into the software with one button click:

  • Brake Testing – distance, time, MFDD, corrected distance, trigger speed etc.
  • Acceleration Testing – instantly view speed versus time & distance tables
  • Circuit Testing – extract and analyse lap information

We offer dedicated software solutions for a number of specialised tests such as:

  • Aquaplane
  • Coastdown
  • Lane Change
  • Centreline Deviation

INPUTS

  • GPS Antenna
Available with an update rate of 20 times a second
  • CAN Bus
Data can be logged from external modules e.g. the Thermocouple Interface or the Frequency & Pulse Counter Input Module. Up to 16 CAN signals can also be logged from a different CAN source (e.g. Vehicle CAN Bus). When logging data from another source, VBOX Tools can load signal data from an industry standard CAN database file (.DBC).
  • Brake Trigger
By using a physical switch on the brake pedal, a precise ‘start of braking event’ can be captured. This is required to capture true Stopping Distance to the accuracy quoted.
  • Power Supply
VBOX IISX can accept a supply voltage between 6 to 30v DC. Low current consumption results in extended battery life.

OUTPUTS

  • CAN Bus
By utilising spare CAN Bus connections VBOX GPS can transmit data while logging readouts from external module inputs.
  • RS232/ USB
RS232 connector is used for VBOX configuration and output of real-time GPS data. A USB port is also present giving the same functionality for PC’s with USB sockets.
  • 2x Digital Outputs
One digital output is assigned to speed/distance – configurable via Pulses per Meter. The other is a level switch output enabling users to select any one of the logged channels and assign it a threshold value.
  • 2x Analogue Outputs
Both 16bit analogue outputs can be configured to output velocity (or other GPS parameters) for use by additional data logging equipment. The voltage output range is from 0 to 5v DC with a resolution of 76 μV per bit.
  • SD Card
Accepts most types of SD card (NOT SD HC). Data is stored in a standard PC format allowing fast transfer of data to a PC equipped with a SD card reader. The file format is an ASCII text file that can be loaded directly onto VBOX Tools software, or imported into Excel and other third party software.

VBOX IISX measures the following parameters at 20 samples per second, and purely from GPS:

  • Time
  • Position
  • Velocity
  • Vertical velocity
  • Longitudinal velocity
  • Heading
  • Height
  • Lateral acceleration
  • Longitudinal acceleration
  • Radius of turn
  • Centreline deviation

These specifications refer to VBOX IISX 20Hz (RLVB2SX), 10Hz (RLVB2SX10) and 5Hz (RLVB2SX5).
